What should I expect at my first appointment?
At your first visit to Nima Aleagha DDS, we perform a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, and bite. This typically includes digital X-rays, a periodontal health assessment, an oral cancer screening, and a review of your dental and medical history. After the exam, our dentist will discuss findings with you, answer your questions, and develop a personalized care plan. If your schedule allows, a cleaning can often be completed at the same appointment.
How often should I come in for a dental cleaning?
Most patients benefit from a professional cleaning and exam every six months. Patients with a history of gum disease, rapid tartar buildup, or other elevated risk factors may be placed on a three-to-four month schedule. Our dentist will recommend the interval that is right for your individual oral health at your first comprehensive exam.
Do you see children at your office?
Yes. We are a true family dental practice and see patients of all ages — from a child’s first dental visit through adulthood. We take a gentle, unhurried approach with young patients and work hard to make every visit a positive experience. We also offer fluoride treatments and dental sealants to protect children’s developing teeth.
Do you offer sedation for anxious patients?
Yes. We offer nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) for patients who experience dental anxiety or who simply want a more relaxed experience during treatment. Nitrous oxide is safe, fast-acting, and wears off within minutes — most patients can drive themselves home after their appointment. It is available for virtually any procedure and for patients of all ages with parental consent for children.
What payment and financing options do you accept?
We accept most major PPO dental insurance plans and are happy to help you understand and maximize your benefits. For patients without insurance or with out-of-pocket balances, we offer financing through CareCredit® and Sunbit to help make treatment affordable. Visit our Financial Information page for full details, or call our office and a team member will walk you through your options.
Do you accept dental insurance?
Yes. We accept a wide range of PPO dental insurance plans. Our team will verify your benefits before your appointment, submit claims on your behalf, and clearly explain any estimated out-of-pocket costs in advance. If you are unsure whether we accept your specific plan, call (805) 494-1831 and we will check for you.
What happens if I have a dental emergency?
We make every effort to see emergency patients the same day they call. If you are experiencing severe tooth pain, facial swelling, a knocked-out tooth, a lost crown, or any other urgent dental situation, call (805) 494-1831 immediately. For after-hours emergencies involving severe swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, go directly to an emergency room.
How can teeth grinding damage my teeth?
Teeth grinding (bruxism) places excessive force on tooth enamel — gradually wearing it down, causing chips and cracks, increasing sensitivity, and stressing the jaw joints. Many patients grind during sleep without realizing it. Signs include morning jaw soreness, frequent headaches, and flattened tooth surfaces. We can fabricate a custom night guard to protect your teeth and relieve associated jaw discomfort.
What are dental implants and are they right for me?
Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed in the jawbone to replace missing tooth roots, topped with a custom porcelain crown. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth, preserve jawbone density, and can last a lifetime with proper care. Most healthy adults with adequate bone volume are candidates. Patients with bone loss may first require a bone graft. We will evaluate your candidacy at a consultation appointment.
How do I know if I have gum disease?
Early gum disease (gingivitis) often causes gums to appear red, swollen, or bleed easily when brushing or flossing — frequently without pain. More advanced gum disease (periodontitis) may involve receding gums, persistent bad breath, loose teeth, or visible pus near the gumline. Because gum disease is often painless in its early stages, regular six-month exams are essential for early detection and treatment.
How can I whiten my teeth?
We offer two professional whitening options at Nima Aleagha DDS: Zoom!® in-office whitening for dramatic results in a single appointment, and Day White® take-home whitening using custom-fitted trays for gradual results over one to two weeks. Both deliver results that over-the-counter products cannot match. We also offer porcelain veneers and dental bonding for patients whose staining does not respond to whitening.
What should I do if my child knocks out a tooth?
If a permanent tooth is knocked out, act quickly — time is critical. Pick up the tooth by the crown only, rinse it gently without scrubbing, and try to reinsert it into the socket or keep it moist in milk or saliva. Call (805) 494-1831 immediately. The best chance of saving the tooth is within 30 to 60 minutes of the injury. A knocked-out baby tooth typically does not require reimplantation but should still be evaluated to rule out damage to the underlying permanent tooth.
